Turkey’s increasingly destabilizing actions in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East and its growing alignment with autocratic powers like Russia pose serious risks to the regional stability and American interests in the region. A new bipartisan bill has been introduced, the Turkey Diplomatic Realignment Act—a critical initiative aimed at countering Turkey’s aggressive policies and realigning our diplomatic strategy.
The bill reassigns Turkey from the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs to the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the State Department. This reflects Turkey’s own shift—closer ties with Russia and China, ongoing support for Hamas, and repeated provocations toward Greece and Cyprus.
